Martha's Vineyard Hospital is a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital located on beautiful Martha's Vineyard Island, just 7 miles of the coast of Cape Cod Massachusetts. We provide year-round health care support to island residents, as well as a seasonal surge during the summer months. We are a not-for-profit organization affiliated with the Massachusetts General Brigham (MGB) healthcare system. REGISTERED NURSE, EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

The primary purpose of your job is to provide nursing services in the Emergency Department in accordance with the current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the CEO, Director of Physician Services, CNE and practice providers.

Unit Requirements: Emergency Room ER ED RN

  • Understands and implements the principles of Emergency Room triage.
  • Recognizes the need and initiates the proper sequence of notification when a disaster is anticipated.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of trauma, cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, thermal injuries and other emergencies including appropriate therapies, special procedures & equipment.
  • Demonstrates special knowledge of:
  • Airway management (glidescope/ett/lma)
  • Lucas CPR compression device
  • Level 1 rapid infuser
  • Pyxis
  • Rigid cervical collar
  • Defibrillator/pacer/synch cardioversion
  • Arterial line set-up
  • Chest tubes
  • Tourniquets
  • Intraosseous Catheters
  • Suture Sets
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of drug specific to the ED
  • Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases and uses available resources in assessment process.
  • Provides written assessment of patient on admission documents nursing intervention, patient response, effectiveness, and complications and summarizes information on discharge.
  • Summarizes assessment data and makes a nursing care plan which is written and communicated to other patient care providers.
  • Implements clinical and technical aspects of care and nursing orders in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Intervenes with proper technique, procedure, and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patient.
  • Functions within the limits of State Nurse Practice Act, ENA, hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
  • Assesses, plans, and implements instructions for patient & family needs.
  • Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills, and physiological norms of patients, recognizing a patient's psychosocial development and modifies approaches for patients.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Mass.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • ACLS/PALS/BLS required
  • TNCC preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Room or Critical Care RN experience is required.
