Summary of Job Duties:The Assistant Director, STEM Career and Outreach Services is responsible for the operation and management of STEM outreach events, career services programs, and the recruitment of students into all STEM degree programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required in aSTEM or related field.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Two years of experience working with students in a STEM environment;

  • Two years experience with student success programs OR;

  • Four years experience in student success and/or retention programs/initiatives.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and operate all STEM outreach programs and events including, but not limited to scheduling and promotion, student recruitment and selection, volunteer recruitment and procurement of materials;

  • Manage and operate DCSTEM Career Fairs and coordinate supplemental career development events in connection with DCSTEM Career Fairs;

  • Work with industry partners to post, promote, and fill internships, part-time, and full-time employment opportunities;

  • Manage and coordinate in-state and out-of-state recruitment efforts including maintaining a STEM presence at college fairs via scheduling college fair visits, attending career days at high school and middle schools, managing and assisting in the operation of all STEM outreach events/programs, and manage school visits to DCSTEM;

  • Attend strategically selected in-state college fairs to promote STEM programs;

  • Assist in the curriculum development, operation, and management of STEM bridge programs;

  • Provide content for STEM-related posts via social media, including outreach, recruitment, and undergraduate student events;

  • Assist in working with external groups to coordinate outreach events and programs;

  • Compile statistics on all DCSTEM recruitment and outreach events;

  • Assist in the development of new outreach and recruitment programs to increase effectiveness and to increase student yield;

  • Develop and improve student recruitment materials and programs;

  • Work with local school districts to increase and diversify the pool of qualified STEM applicants in Arkansas;

  • In conjunction with UA Little Rock Communication & Marketing, locate new, creative promotional items (beyond printed materials) for prospective students and their families while maintaining current stock of promotional items.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;

  • Excellent organizational skills;

  • A strong network of professional contacts;

  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including parents, teachers, students, counselors, business leaders, faculty, and UALR administration;

  • Knowledge of current trends in STEM career options available for new graduates;

  • Ability to work adeptly with Microsoft Office/Google suite of programs;

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and hold a valid driver's license;

  • Ability to travel in and out of state.
