Job Summary

Under the supervision and guidance of the Environmental & Chemistry Manager, the plant technical specialist is responsible for managing data, monitoring and improving performance, maintaining compliance and conducting field inspections as related to plant chemical and regulatory programs. Independently performs technical evaluations, calculations, analysis and design to support the assigned functional area.

Job Description

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the SPCC and Oil Management

  • Help support the Waste Water Program which involves collection/analysis of samples, NPDES reporting, coordinating and/or performing DMRQA testing.

  • Responsible for collecting and performing quality control of fly ash and coal samples; evaluating, auditing and monitoring performance of contract laboratories and intervention when appropriate.

  • Help support cycle chemical, waste water treatment and sewage treatment monitoring to include performance evaluation and improvement.

  • Monitors quality of coals to include test burns and review of analytical data and makes recommendations concerning operational issues related to quality.

  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

Years of Professional Experience: 3-7 Years (Power/Utilities Industry, Environmental, or Water Chemistry experience preferred)

Computer Skills: Proficient with MS Work and Excel

Education: High School Diploma or GED; bachelor's degree in a technical field is preferred

Work Conditions and Job Requirements

  • Position requires field work throughout the entire plant on a regular basis, i.e. internal inspections of boilers, confined spaces, etc.

  • Must be able to frequently climb stairs; climb ladders to and work from elevated platforms and walkways at elevations of 75 feet or more.

  • This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions while exposed to heat, cold, operating machinery, energized wires, loud noise, dust, grease, oil and fumes.

  • The job also requires carrying, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Personal protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, chemical suits, high voltage protective equipment, etc.)

  • Will be required to be on call.
