Job Description
Overview

Performs preventative and corrective maintenance and may lead and instruct others regarding HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and medical equipment at hospital and/or clinics. Requires extensive skills and knowledge of general maintenance of select equipment or systems. Assists with remodeling and reconstruction. May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts, on call and weekends. Performs other duties as assigned.


Responsibilities

  • Provides a timely and effective response to unanticipated facility needs, minimizing risks to patient and team members, to maintain safety and avoid interruption of service.
  • Maintains and repairs systems including but not limited to HVAC, life safety systems, and refrigeration equipment at an advanced level.
  • Performs duties including but not limited to plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and electrical, as assigned.
  • May be assigned responsibilities in remodeling projects including but not limited to assuring accuracy of quotes and providing estimates.
  • Participates in managing inventories and expenses in compliance with operation budgets.
  • Work with outside suppliers to procure and assure proper inventory of supplies.
  • Assists with training efforts for department personnel
  • Assumes responsibility for assurance of operation and quality of assigned systems impacting life safety.
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation of equipment function, maintenance and testing as specified by manufacturer or per regulatory compliance
  • May be required to provide documentation and support evidence of compliance with regulatory bodies during inspections.
  • May work independently on challenging assignments with limited resources.
  • Assists Supervisor with organization of daily work flow and task priorities.
  • Assists Supervisor with continued management of timely, complete, and accurate regulatory documentation.
  • Completes mandatory detail documentation of tasks performed including time spent performing tasks.
  • Effectively communicates with customers, peers, and leadership.
  • Knowledge in the use of a computer and related organizational programs, CMMS and BAS is required.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent
Five to seven years' experience in mechanical or electrical trades preferably in a healthcare setting.


Certification/Licensure

Healthcare Mechanic Certification (M.E.C.H.) preferred.
NIULPE Power Engineer certification of approved equivalent preferred.
EPA refrigerant handling certification preferred.

Special Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
