Purpose
In the role of Social Worker II you will provide psychotherapy in the treatment of persons with mental health concerns, and participate as a member of an academic setting multidisciplinary team serving a diverse population.


Primary Functions

  • Provide clinical services within a State of Wisconsin certified outpatient mental health and AODA outpatient clinic including individual, couples, family and/or group psychotherapy for adults with a diverse range of mental health concerns.
  • Provide supportive counseling to a variety of Medical College of Wisconsin students including Medical, Pharmacy and Graduate Students.
  • Triage of emergent situations, phone conversations, and the ability to negotiate healthcare and social service systems.
  • Complete intake assessments and develop appropriate service plans. Document in an electronical medical record (EPIC), along with being flexible and adaptable to ongoing electronic record keeping updates.
  • Interface with clinical faculty and staff to include referral coordinators, psychotherapists, physicians, psychiatry and psychology residents, nurses, interns and support staff. Provide diagnostic consultation; maintain and participate in Quality Assurance activities.
  • Complete documentation requirements for all services provided and participate in clinical supervision/consultation in compliance with all county, state and federal rules.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of both psychiatric and substance abuse principles and skills regarding diagnosis and treatment. Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Clinical versatility providing individual, couples and group counseling to a broad array of clients with diverse needs. Ability to respond to clinical and administrative emergencies. Education and experience in psychotherapy in an outpatient mental health setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or other Mental Health related field.
  • Minimum 3000 post-graduate supervised hours and experience in an outpatient setting.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (State of Wisconsin), Licensed Professional Counselor (State of Wisconsin) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (State of Wisconsin) required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of full-time experience as an outpatient psychotherapist, or the equivalent thereof.
  • Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) an asset.
  • DBT and substance abuse knowledge and/or experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
