  • Location: Chicago, IL
  • Full Time
  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
  • Required Travel: Primary location is Swedish Hospital-Galter Medical Pavilion, Chicago. Some travel to Evanston, Glenbrook, and Highland Park sites for meetings and coverage, if needed.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required from an accredited nursing school. Master's degree in nursing, business or a healthcare related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in an appropriate clinical setting required.
  • Three to five years of prior oncology-specific ambulatory experience preferred.
  • One to two years of nurse leadership experience preferred.
  • Current professional RN licensure in the state of Illinois required.
  • American Heart Association CPR certification required.
  • ONS Biotherapy card required.
  • Board certification preferred; OCN certification preferred.

General Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Manager has accountability and responsibility in his/her assigned clinical areas for the professional nursing practice, professional development and education of the staff, performance improvement initiatives, Systems and process improvement, fiscal management of the department, adherence to all regulatory compliance standards, and creates an environment within the department that promotes customer loyalty for all groups (patients, families, physicians and employees)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowledge and application of Endeavor Health policies and procedures that apply to job and area of responsibility.

  • Knowledge of the federal, state and local laws that apply to job's area of responsibility
  • Knowledge of Endeavor Health policies and procedures that apply to job and area of responsibility.
  • Disseminates information to staff regarding new and/or revised policies and procedures.
  • Assures nursing practice within the department follows established policies and procedures.

Supervises professional nursing practice and patient care to ensure care is delivered in a safe and competent manner.

  • Accountable for the delivery of high quality care within nursing units/departments.
  • Assures the establishment and utilization of standards for patient care that are consistent with national and/or specialty standards.
  • Assures the implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Operationalizes the shared-decision making model of professional practice.
  • Within the shared decision making model of practice, creates an environment where professional nursing staff are accountable and responsible for nursing practice by utilizing nursing research, evidence based and/or best practices to guide the nursing staff in making decisions related to patient care.
  • Provides ongoing assessment of the status of Relationship Based Care for nursing unit/departments.

Manages human resources functions in order to ensure that Endeavor Health policy and procedures are consistently followed amongst all staff.

  • Interviews and selects personnel for hire
  • Collaborates with the (unit) Oncology Educator, Clinical Coordinator and Preceptors to insure a thorough orientation and ongoing training.
  • Implements the performance management program in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Maintains unit stability by (analyzing staff retention and turnover data) developing appropriate action plans when needed.
  • Leads, facilitates, coaches, and mentors staff for professional development and growth.

Monitors the fiscal performance of the department. Responsible for ensuring the operations of the department run in a cost efficient manner while maintaining quality nursing care.

  • Establishes staffing (plan) schedule based on patient census and acuity.
  • Evaluates and manages employee expense and utilization of resources as it relates to patient acuity and intensity of service required.
  • Regularly reviews unit performance. Identifies variances/opportunities for improvement and implements appropriate action plans.
  • Prepares requests for capital purchase expenditures for department.
  • Identifies need for capital or unit expenditures.

Participates in both corporate and unit based quality initiatives to promote continuous improvement in the delivery of patient care and clinical outcomes.

  • Provides leadership to unit staff to identify and address performance improvement issues within nursing unit/department.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements appropriate workflows, policies, procedures and/or guidelines using evidence-based/best practice
  • Collaborates with psycho-social staff (to understand length of stay issues and implement actions plan to reduce nursing)
  • Participates in program planning and development.
  • Participates in unit, departmental , and multidisciplinary committees,
  • Ensures the physical environment is maintained in an organized manner to support the delivery of patient care.
  • Provides an environment that supports physician, employee, patient and family loyalty initiatives through daily rounding, understanding and intervening in problem resolutions and service recovery.
  • Analyzes Quality Score Care and unit specific performance improvement data. Establishes action plans related to performance improvement activities to achieve established goals for performance.
  • Coordinates with peers in similar service lines across the system to exchange best practices to ensure Endeavor Health maintains standards across the system
  • Analyzes customer loyalty data and implement appropriate plans to derive positive results.

Establishes individual goals for staff and an annual educational plan for the department to promote the professional development and education of all staff within the department.

  • Creates an environment supportive of education, certification and research projects.
  • Assumes accountability and responsibility for own professional growth.
  • Networks in professional community
  • Collaborates with the unit's Oncology Educator and Professional Development Unit Based Council (members) Liaison.
  • Communicates observations of changing trends in the health care environment as related to specific specialty areas.
  • Provides on-going assessment of professional growth and the level of development of each staff member through observation, evaluation, counseling, problem-solving, and emotional and situational support to increase retention and decrease turnover.

Monitors department's compliance to all regulatory standards, established by various regulatory bodies.

  • Assures all patient care is in compliance with N.P.S.G
  • Maintains continuous HFAP readiness
  • Ensures compliance with HIPPAA regulations.
  • Maintains compliance with all state and federal regulations.

  • Frequent contact with physicians, patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
