Position Overview

At Lucas, the Production Expediter helps Operations Supervisors, Buyers and Sales ensure shipping deadlines are met by overseeing the flow of materials, components, tooling, and paperwork among departments, and by taking action to solve problems and help achieve on-time delivery. Reporting to the Production Manager, this resource uses knowledge of production flow and strong communication and problem solving skills to resolve issues preventing on-time delivery quickly and efficiently. The Production Expediter acts as a support to the Operations Supervisors by chasing down problems that are interrupting product flow and helping to eliminate these in a manner which prevents further disruption to the daily work of the floor.

Responsibilities:

  • Review orders with Operations Supervisors, Planners and Sales to fully understand deadlines.
  • Assist Operations Supervisors, Planners and Sales to efficiently execute changes.
  • Support Operations Supervisors to ensure materials, tools, and paperwork are in place ahead of a job running.
  • Identify problems in work flow, expediting issue resolution by focusing fully on required solutions and improvements, leaving Operations Supervisors to focus on remaining daily work.
  • Recommend improvements to increase production including hiring, increasing overtime, obtaining new equipment or changing equipment scheduling.
  • Track down source of product defects and recommend countermeasures to eliminate moving ahead.
  • Help communicate delays internally so customers are up to date on latest shipping dates.
  • Assist with closing out continuous improvement and RCCA open items.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years+ technical experience relevant to specific work area preferred.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal assignments, including the ability to interpret related documents such as Quality specifications, Kanban cards and work orders.
  • Ability to understand and achieve compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to build consensus.
  • Strong bias for action, and proven ability to use persistence to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Basic PC skills (experience with MS Office Suite preferred).
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with proven ability to achieve sustained results.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
