Requires Wisconsin DPI License for School Psychologist, or eligibility for Wisconsin DPI license for School Psychologist.

Starting Salary Schedule $65,408 - $106,195

200 Day/10-month per School Year

School Psychologists in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) serve a diverse student population in a variety of school settings (traditional, Montessori, language immersion, IB, charter, magnet).Typically, psychologists either serve on the centralized evaluation team or they have a school based assignment. MPS Psychologists also have opportunities to pursue other non-traditional roles or assignments, such as positions with the Violence Prevention program.Our 150 school psychologists offer direct services at the prevention, intervention, and supportive levels to both regular education and special education students. Numerous professional development and collaboration opportunities are provided. Competitive salary and benefits packages, including tuition reimbursement and paid conference fees, are also provided to MPS psychologists.

  • Conduct assessments for initial special education referrals
  • Consult with school-based staff regarding referred students
  • Participate in initial IEP meetings

School-Based Psychologist

  • Special Education Re-evaluation
    • Assessment
    • IEP Team participation
    • Adding relevant information to Infinite Campus, the district's student information system
    • Providing related services
  • Involvement in Building Intervention Team (BIT)
    • Academic
    • Behavior
  • Direct services to students
    • Individual therapy
    • Group therapy
    • Classroom presentations(Talking about Touching, Second Step, Yoga, Mindfulness, etc.)
    • Check in/Check out
    • Facilitation of Tier 2 Interventions such as Social/Academic Instruction Groups
    • Facilitation of Tier 3 interventions such as Educational Wraparound/RENEW
  • Systems level work
    • School-based committees
    • School-Based Learning Team
    • Violence Prevention activities
    • School-based training on trauma informed care
  • Additional school-based services
    • Section 504 Coordination, which includes determining the need for assessments for initial evaluations and reevaluations, facilitating compliance with plan implementation, and facilitating annual reviews
    • Consultation and Collaboration with school staff members, district employees, and families
    • Risk Assessments
    • District Crisis Team participation
    • Processing initial IEP referral paperwork and sending the documentation to the centralized evaluation team.
