As an R&D Engineering Tools Specialist, you will contribute significantly to technology and product development projects by identifying and implementing innovative solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting aggressive product and technology design and development projects that align with growth and cost reduction initiatives. This position will work with cross functional teams to develop in-house programs to aid in the design, maintenance and sales of Large AC motors (>500hp). Based in Greenville, South Carolina, this position will help develop innovative solutions in Large AC motors.

This position reports to

Engineering Manager Large AC Motors

Your responsibilities

  • Work with R&D (Research and Development) engineers to develop new products and software tools to manage products
  • Develop programs to interface with commercial ERP and engineering designs tools
  • Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents and reports
  • Utilize ERPs (SAP, Teamcenter) to review and create concept design drawings
  • Work with Senior Engineers to perform FEM (Finite element model) analysis of legacy and conceptual designs
  • Interpret regulatory standards and ensure designs meet standards
  • Write papers, participate in technical meetings, seminars and conferences
Your background

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and 5 years of experience in the design and development, or application of electric motors or rotating equipment and experience in programing interfaces and add-ons for ERPs and commercial engineering tools, or PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)
  • A Master's Degree in required field = Credit given for 2 years of work experience
  • A PhD/Doctorate in required field = Credit given for 3 years of work experience
  • 5 plus years of experience in either product application or development engineering of AC motors preferred
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Knowledge in NEMA, IEC, CSA and IEEE electric motor standards
  • Experience in 2D/3D finite element method modeling such as ANSYS
  • Experience in C#, Delphi, database interface program code (ABAP, SQL, etc.) or scripting based validations
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
