Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines based on the specifications stated in the bill of materials and work instructions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and organize daily workload to accommodate production schedule.
  • Transport parts from racking and staging area utilizing a forklift.
  • Properly mark and stage cut parts on carts used to supply the CNC milling operations.
  • Review specification to determine setup procedures, dimensions, and machining sequences required to manufacture parts.
  • Set up and operate a CNC mill with appropriate tooling.
  • Load CNC programs into machine consoles by entering preprogrammed machine instructions.
  • Observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or questionable conditions.
  • Operate scissors lift to count parts.
  • Perform detailed inspection of manufactured parts on ensure conformance to specifications while striving to maintain production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality.
  • Mark and stage completed parts for the assembly process.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance including cleaning up and lubrication.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Basic understanding of Conversational programming.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting equipment.
  • Requires operating hand tools, power tools and pneumatic tools, general fabrication tools, and various measuring devices.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and/or other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Squatting, kneeling and standing frequently.
  • This position is in a manufacturing environment where the noise level is high.
