Job Title: Nurse Clinician- Cath Lab

Location: Children's Wisconsin

Work Schedule: Part-Time 20 hours per week

What you will do:

Reporting to the Cath Lab Supervisor, the nurse functions with demonstrated expertise in the delivery of direct patient care to children and their families. The nurse, with advanced clinical knowledge and skill, assesses the need for, prioritizes, and provides nursing care to patients undergoing procedures or exams in the Cath Lab or Cardiology Clinic. The nurse is a recognized resource for consultation to nursing and physician services, within both CHW and the community. The nurse is responsible for coordinating patient care and for assisting in providing 'seamless' patient care before, during, and after Cath Lab procedures, which have the potential to be high risk. Takes call as scheduled.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing; current Herma Heart Center staff in a Nurse Clinician position prior to 2005 are grandfathered at their current education level.

  • A current license to practice nursing in the state of Wisconsin. Three years of nursing experience required. Critical care/emergency experience preferred.

  • Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required. PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification within 6 months of hire.

  • Analytical skills necessary to identify, assess, and resolve complex patient situations, develop standards of care and procedures, and evaluate the quality of nursing care.

  • An understanding of CHW health care delivery system and the impact of other health care delivery systems on the patient and family. Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members, other CHW departments, and consumers.

  • Ability to work flexible hours and be on-call for the Cardiac Cath Lab to meet patient care needs.

  • Must be able to walk, stand for long periods, wearing protective equipment weighing 10-15 pounds over 80% of the assigned work period, as well as lift and position patients weighing up to 150 pounds.
