We are looking for NIGHT shift Behavioral Health RN candidate to help us grow our unique Behavioral Assessment Team for inpatient units. We do not provide inpatient psychiatric treatment, but this team supports our patients, families and staff in the inpatient setting.

We have many pediatric patients who are receiving medical care primarily while also presenting with co-occurring mental health needs that may require additional consideration and planning. Our Behavioral Health nurses respond to support requests, bringing their expertise so that we can be sure to provide the best and safest care for all of our patients and families.

This position will require weekend hours in a rotation that will likely come to every 3rd weekend. It is a 12 hour night shift from 19-0730 at a.9 fte (76 hours in a 2 week pay period) There will also be a holiday rotation.

We would also consider someone interested in a weekend nights only schedule.

There is a sign on bonus and eligibility for night shift bonus program after successful completion of 90 day intro period

This team and/program is growing and changing so looking for candidates who have flexibility.

Functions with demonstrated expertise in patient care for mental and behavioral health. The nurse provides direct clinical care and support within the behavioral health realm. As a recognized resource for consultation to the bedside staff, the nurse assists assessment, clinical management, communication, crisis prevention, regulatory readiness, and evidence-based care practice. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment.

Experience

Requires 1 year of experience in nursing

Requires 1 year experience with patients having co-occurring behavioral health presentations, or in psychiatric or behavioral health

Experience working with diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification

Registered Nurse license issued by the state of Wisconsin

Current CPR certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providerscertification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Education

Associates degree in Nursing BSN preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Understands the pediatric developmental stages and child/family responses to fear, illness, injury, and hospitalization.

Analytical skills are necessary to assess complex patient conditions effectively and to develop comprehensive plans of care.

Synthesizes multiple sources of information to assist in the resolution of human responses to complex problems.

Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers.

Ability to delegate patient care activities effectively to unlicensed staff as appropriate and where indicated.

The ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services.

Mental and sensory abilities to read, process and interpret clinical data.

Flexible to ambiguity and unpredictability of patient presentations/needs.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Provides services in a setting where there is potential for exposure to blood and other high risk body fluids, chemotherapy agents, communicable disease and hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste.

Ongoing risk of vicarious trauma by providing services to a population that carriers a high burden of injury through experiencing adversity and violence.

Employees may:

Need to move from furniture to floor or engage in play-type activities with children in a variety of room types (exam, interviewing, therapy).

Need to verbally de-escalate upset children, adolescents, or adults.

Need to adapt approaches or communication styles to fit the needs of the patient population.

Preferred Job Requirements

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification

Education

Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred

Experience

2 years of nursing experience preferred

Experience in a pediatric medical setting is strongly preferred.

Experience working with children, adolescents, and families
