Job Description
Job purpose

The focus of the Food Service Assistant is to assist with the planning, organizing, managing, and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Food Service Operations on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  The incumbent will also prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner at VETS Place Central as well as prepare the meals for the other Transitional Housing locations.


Qualifications
  • High school diploma required
  • Two years of commercial cooking experience required
  • ServSafe certification required
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and current automobile insurance required
Duties and responsibilities
  1. Write up a planning chart, getting information on the number of meals needed
  2. Complete a standard production form for the meal count sheet and the portions served
  3. Lift cases of produce, weighing between 25 and 50 pounds, averaging 35 pounds, from the shelf onto the push cart or onto the preparation area (total lifting per day averages about 500 pounds)
  4. Clean up the preparation area, including sink, stove, floor, and utensils used in cooking in order to maintain sanitary conditions
  5. Weigh proportions using a kitchen scale based on the amount needed, and place food in pans
  6. Prep ingredients needed for a scheduled meal, following written recipes (sauté vegetables, pre-brown meat, cook rice, etc.) using kitchen equipment (40-gallon skillet, roasting, and convection ovens)
  7. Prepare meals for the residents of VETS Place Central and Boudicca House
  8. Serve meals to the residents of VETS Place Central
  9. Supervise volunteers
  10. Other duties as assigned or requested
