Position Title: Facilities Technician III

Employment Type: Full-time, University Staff, Hourly

Reports To:TheFacilities Technician III will report tothe Associate Director of Housing & Residence Life

Full Time Pay Range: $16.63 - $37.98 per hour, commensurate based on experience

Facilities Technician III position is dedicated to Housing & Residence Life. This position also provides support to the Student Center and Dining facilities. This is an advanced level mechanical, facilities and repair position that requires the employee to serve as a maintenance generalist. This is a first shift position with hours from 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. This is an essential personnel position and may be required to work when the University is closed; emergency maintenance response, occasional evening, night, weekend and holiday hours are required. Work on move-in weekend is required.

This position performs general interior and exterior maintenance and upkeep work primarily within the residence halls and apartment communities. This position functions as a lead maintenance worker for Housing & Residence Life. Employees in this classification operate, maintain, and make repairs on minor electrical, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, and other mechanical systems and apparatus commonly used in office, institutional and residential buildings. General carpentry work is initiated and completed within the scope of this position.

Housing and Residence Life is comprised of three residence halls for first-year through graduate students. Approximately, up to 1,000 students can live in university housing. The department has eight professional staff members and various student staff positions.


Essential Job Functions
  • Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
  • Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed

Qualifications
  • H.S. Diploma - Preferred Minimum
  • Four years of experience in construction or general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and mechanical maintenance

The ideal candidate will possess and has:

  • Experience with complex maintenance in structural, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, and other mechanical systems.
  • Two years of experiences in increasingly difficult repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds facilities in positions that require ongoing, continual use of techniques and tools used in repairing and maintaining wooden structures and structural components. An equivalent combination of training experience may also be necessary.
  • Currently possess or obtain and maintain ASOPE Third Class Facility Operating Engineer License.
  • Currently possess or obtain low pressure boiler licensing.
  • EPA certified for refrigerant recovery, reclaiming, and recycling.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection blueprints both in paper and electronic formats. Sensitivity to, or experience in, working with a diverse, multicultural population. This position manages multiple priorities and must have the ability to perform work in the student living areas.
