Job Description

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Operations Coordinator to join our Rapid Prototyping Center team. This position focuses on fulfilling projects within the Rapid Prototyping Center, including providing capacity to operations as needed, maintaining quality control, and lab process improvements.  The position requires high attention to detail, problem solving skills, ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, and effective time management.

Essential Job Functions
  • Work with Project Manager and student operators to ensure consortium member priorities are being fulfilled; maintain and update workflow system to track and document project status.
  • Maintain proficiency in operating all in-house additive manufacturing systems in order to provide additional capacity to operations when needed; maintain relationships with OEM and supplier technicians/technical support to use as a troubleshooting resource and develop professional technical knowledge.
  • Collaborate with RPC employees to review manufacturability of projects including identifying potential challenges/weaknesses and making recommendations as necessary to support quality production. 
  • Identify and implement lab process improvements, including operations, post-processing, workflow documentation, environmental health and safety, and quality control.
  • Maintain quality control process and part inspection records, and when necessary, investigate root cause, corrective, and preventative actions.
  • Coordinate the operations and fulfillment of process and material beta test programs, including build programming, post processing, and facilitating communication of information between stakeholders (OEMs, MSOE, and consortium members) as needed (such as periodic reports, surveys, or conference calls).
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver training and guidance to student employees under direction of Manager of Operations
  • Provide assistance to cover responsibilities of other RPC staff members as needed

Qualifications
  • Requires a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a related technology field (e.g. Engineering, Manufacturing, Tool & Design, CNC Programmer/Operator, CAD/CAM technology, etc.)
  • Requires project management and industrial experience.  Strong interpersonal skills, an in-depth understanding of applied additive manufacturing technology, and a customer-focused attitude.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing/3D printing/rapid prototyping desired. 
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.
  • Skill in the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions, practical algebra, and essentials of trigonometry.
  • Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to:  Define the problem or objective. Identify relevant concerns or factors. Identify patterns, tendencies and relationships. Formulate logical, quantitative, and objective conclusions. Recognize alternatives and their implications.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus.
  • Must occasionally lift a minimum weight of 50 pounds without assistance.
Work Environment
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
