Position Overview:

The Engineering Technician will provide support at numerous commercial and federal client sites, primarily throughout southeast Michigan and Ohio. Support includes providing construction quality assurance (CQA) onsite during construction activities, management of information, communicating with project team personnel, collecting field documentation, writing technical reports, and acting as a client liaison.


Some of the duties include:

  • Reviewing construction drawings and site permit documentation to determine testing requirements
  • Providing coordination with the office project team, client, and contractor to complete project objectives
  • Conducting field soil sample collection and assigning lab testing
  • Operating a Nuclear Density Gauge (NDG) to determine density and moisture content of soils placed onsite with documentation of the testing results
  • Observing and documenting geosynthetics installation typically used during landfill cell and cover system construction, including geomembrane, geosynthetic clay liners, geocomposites, geotextiles, geogrids
  • Observing and documenting installation of pipelines, pumps, and stormwater control features
  • Observing and documenting landfill gas (LFG) system installations, including gas wells, horizontal collectors, headers, and control features


Work Environment:

  • Lift and carry field testing equipment as needed
  • Communicate daily with project team and onsite personnel - contractors, clients, CTI supervisor(s), testing laboratories, etc.
  • Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, and walking significant distances
  • Perform and/or be prepared to perform job duties during inclement weather and during all seasons
  • Limited use of hand and power tools
  • Physically navigate project/construction sites and follow designated site traffic patterns
  • Travel locally for field assignments and have reliable transportation for commuting

Qualifications include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in civil/environmental engineering/technology, Construction Management, Geology, Environmental Science, or other Science or technically based programs.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid driver's license with no known driving restrictions/limitations

Preferred

  • OSHA construction certifications
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training
  • NDG certified training
  • Geosynthetics Installation CQA certifications/experience
