Position Description:

Research Technologist III

Purpose

The Kajana Labs of the Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Research Technologist to join our research team focused on motor control and spinal cord injury. Under general direction, develop, improve and implement a variety of laboratory techniques and perform complex experiments to contribute to the timely completion of data.

Primary Functions

* Develop and perform lab research procedures and carry out routine complex experiments including small animal surgeries, various assays, histology, electrophysiology, and behavioral testing.

* Develop and apply standard quality control procedures to assure quality of test results.

* Provide individual instruction and may indirectly supervise other lab personnel as required.

* Process data and develop processing techniques to expedite delivery of results. Actively participate in meetings with Principal Investigator and research staff to evaluate, interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies and evaluate lab procedures.

* Create and maintain timely accurate records.

* Operate, calibrate, perform and supervise routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research laboratories.

* Oversee daily lab operations in the absence of the supervisor or Principal Investigator.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Commensurate with the autonomy and intellectual contribution level, the candidate will have the chance to showcase their research at scientific conferences, collaborate as a co-author on scientific publications, and benefit from tailored training and guidance for pursuing a career in academic or industry research.

Ability to perform various behavioral and physiological experiments and to analyze experimental data using statistical software (including SPSS, Prism, and Excel)

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Required Experience: 3 years

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, or other life science, or Engineering

Preferred Experience: Experience with processing large data sets, animal research, electrophysiology
