Position Overview
The College of Nursing invites candidates with clinical expertise, strong teaching skills and leadership ability in nurse anesthesia to submit applications. The Nurse Anesthesia program director is a doctorally prepared CRNA who oversees the organization, administration, and evaluation of the nurse anesthesia education program. The director participates in recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of program faculty and ensures program compliance with standards of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assumes overall authority and responsibility for all nurse anesthesia program activities including program coordination, administration, and evaluation.
  • Assists in the preparation of and provides input to a program budget which supports academic quality. Administers program-specific budget items, as appropriate.
  • Teaches in Classroom and online environments, supports excellence in teaching for program faculty.
  • Serves as a resource for students and faculty.
  • Maintains an ongoing evaluation process to assess and direct program modification and/or development.
  • Communicate essential information to academic and clinical faculty, other specialty directors, department chairs, and deans.
  • Delegates administrative elements to the associate program director and other faculty and staff as indicated.
  • Recruits high quality students with the ability to succeed within the program.
  • Designs clinical rotation schedules to maximize student experience and growth.
  • Acquires clinical sites as needed to provide essential clinical experiences.
  • Accurately tracks clinical experiences and Ensures accuracy of clinical cases and NBCRNA transcript preparation.
  • Maintains accuracy and confidentiality of student records and evaluations.
  • Prepares accurate and representative informational materials with respect to the program for dissemination to applicants, students, faculty and the public.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures within the program and university are administered in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Maintains all elements of the program such that national accreditation is maintained.
  • Develops goals and strategies to continually improve the quality of the program.
  • Interacts appropriately and in a timely manner with the Council on Accreditation and NBCRNA.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) credential, in good standing.
  • Clinical expertise in advanced practice nurse anesthesia.
  • Clinical and classroom teaching skills appropriate for graduate education.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Prior experience with clinical and/or educational standards.
  • PhD, DNP, or equivalent degree.
  • Eligible for Wisconsin licensure and APNP certificate.
  • Demonstrated commitment to CRNA education.
  • Maintains RN licensure and APNP certificate within state of Wisconsin, as well as all other licensure requirements for all states in which Marquette nurse anesthesia students complete clinical rotations.
  • Commitment to continued development of excellence in teaching, clinical scholarship, leadership, and service.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Prior experience with state or national nurse anesthesia professional organizations.
