Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Maintenance and Electrician Technician to join our Facilities team. Under the direction of the Director, the facilities maintenance team oversees the maintenance of 16 buildings on 22 acres in downtown Milwaukee.  The campus includes a mixture of new, aging and historical buildings, residence halls, apartments, athletic fields, parking lots, and commons buildings. Facilities employees provide building services to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for students, staff, and faculty.  The Facilities Team monitors, operates, maintains, and repairs building equipment and systems including but not limited to HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, snow removal, and grounds maintenance in accordance with university standards.  Our team members are responsible for effective day to day maintenance services to the building operational systems.

Essential Job Functions
  • Inspects buildings and other structures, records operating conditions and checks for problems. 
  • Use appropriate tools and equipment to install, repair, maintain, and verify proper operation of building systems and equipment. 
  • Maintains logs of building system operations and work performed. 
  • Follows university policies and procedures to requisition materials and supplies as needed. 
  • Calculate electrical requirements and specifications for materials and equipment.
  • Install equipment for new electrical services (120v, 240v and 480v three phase) including new wiring, conduit, panels, breakers, contactors, relays, timers and controls.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning equipment such as transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, etc.
  • Testing of emergency equipment generators, lighting etc.
  • Perform minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (wall switches and outlets, light bulbs, ballasts, sockets, fuses, minor appliances etc.).
  • Coordinate work of contracted services as needed.
  • Perform minor plumbing maintenance.
  • Perform minor painting, carpentry and masonry work.
  • Perform routine clean up at repair location or in central shop. 
  • Responds to maintenance requests and building occupants, troubleshoots problems making appropriate repairs, adjustments or recommendations. 
  • Moving and set-up of office furniture and other items as needed. 
  • Complete jobs independently with high quality workmanship, minimal supervision in a timely manner. 
  • Good attendance and punctuality are essential to the efficient operation of the entire facilities department.
  • Willing to work overtime and be on an on call rotation. 
  • Access computer programs and use computer operations related to position requirements. 
  • Read and interpret documents, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Keeps working area safe, wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment and abides by established safety policies and procedures.
  • Help introduce new employees to shop protocol, procedures, campus applications and equipment

Other Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in job related training as deemed necessary by the University, forklift, lift operation, etc.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED. 
  • Must possess a Wisconsin Journeyman Electrician license.
  • At least two years of electrical experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, in English, in verbal and written form and must have excellent listening skills.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Must be able to work harmoniously with employees from all areas of the university and with contractors from numerous trades.
  • Must have abilities to multitask and coordinate multiple jobs simultaneously.
  • Must have a positive can do attitude.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to use a ladder, areal lift platform and all maintenance related equipment and tools. 
  • Must be able to lift items up to 50lbs. 
  • Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontally, climbing, frequent walking, etc. as job may require. 
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Work Environment
The work environment includes all campus buildings and grounds (including inside and outside work), may include emergency needs at any time of the day or night.  Noise level which may at times require normal hearing protection in the form of ear plugs.  Extreme heat or cold.  Working at various heights.
