Job Description
Overview

* $15,000 sign on bonus

*No weekends or holidays

*Day shift hours

In addition to providing a variety of technical procedures prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist for the safe delivery of radiation therapy treatments and care to patients, the Radiation Therapist Specialist provides specialized quality assurance assistance to the Medical Physicist, performs the role of departmental IT/Technology educator, and provides day to day oversight and reconciliation of coding and reimbursement operations


Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs the role of the Radiation Therapist to include: scheduling, simulation, patient set-up, and treatment; demonstrates a functional knowledge of all major components of department equipment; delivers external beam treatments in an accurate and timely fashion with a high degree of accuracy; assesses and addresses patient's needs while under treatment; practices appropriate Radiation Safety procedures; accurate and timely completion of patient charts according to established standards and procedures; demonstrates knowledge of standard and advanced treatment calculations and treatment plans; designs and fabricates blocks accurately and efficiently; performs Simulation with a high degree of accuracy in a timely fashion, with little or no supervision; utilizes appropriate scripting, barriers, and patient identifiers as required per position
  • Coding and reimbursement functions to include review of daily coding and charges, quality assurance of departmental charges, daily charge capture reporting for EPIC entry, monitoring for late charges and/or credits, coordination with PFCs for pre-authorization when applicable, and initial management of disputed charges
  • Serves as the department super-user/educator to facilitate the use of new IT and/or treatment equipment education to staff
  • Provides Quality Assurance assistance to Medical Physicist with the routine and accurate performance of specified/required Quality Assurance duties

Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy program
Three years' experience as a registered radiation therapist required


Certification and Licensure

ARRT registration in radiation therapy required
Approved CPR or BLS certification required

The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 50 to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and have the ability to adjust and focus.


Level of Supervision

Performs routine duties independent of supervision, but consults with the Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist, Medical Dosimetrist and Radiation Oncology Supervisor/Manager/Director as required.


Supervises

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
