Position Title:Supervisor - Pediatric Sterile Processing

Job Description:

General Description: Under limited direction, plans, organizes and supervises the processing, storage, and distribution of processed sterile supplies, instruments, equipment and Case Carts.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervises all central sterile processing, which is responsible for cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging and sterilization of all surgical instrumentation and reusable supply items as well as the preparation of Case Carts.
  • Supervises the processing, storage and distribution of processed sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Oversees department daily operations.
  • Monitors the surgery case schedule. Conducts in-service education programs for staff members as necessary and on a routine basis.
  • Schedules work and ensures instruments, equipment and Case Carts are ready when needed. Monitors the ordering process and supply management as it pertains to Case Cart stock, non-stock, surgery supplies and materials management supplies.
  • Works with the coordinator when supply transitions take effect.
  • Ensures that employees are properly trained on all aspects of sterile processing and the preparation of Case Carts.
  • Evaluates employee performance and makes recommendations to improve performance.
  • Assesses departmental processes and develops plans to improve processes as needed.
  • Works on various projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Highschool Diploma or GED

Experience: Three (3) years hospital experience in sterile processing with a minimum of one (1) year supervisory or lead experience preferred

OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:

ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED FROM HIRE:

  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • Certified Central Processing Technician (CRCST) from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)

ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED WITHIN 12 months:

  • Secondary leadership certification Certified Healthcare Leader certification (CHL) from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)
  • Secondary leadership certification Certified in Sterile Processing Management from CBSPD

PREFERRED:

  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) OR Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS).
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of maintenance and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable sanitation and hygiene standards.
  • Knowledge of proper safety practices of steam and gas plasma sterilization.
  • Knowledge of simple record keeping principles and practices.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other medical staff, peers and subordinates.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Skills in supervisory methods.
