Curious about working at Children's Wisconsin? Respiratory Therapist PRN schedule tier options allow for the opportunity to experience Children's and work in pediatrics even if already holding an FTE role elsewhere.

Tier I:

*Two (2) - 12 hour shifts = 24 hours per schedule

* Off Shift requirement: Minimum 1 - 12 hr. every other schedule

* 1 holiday/year

Tier II:

*Three (3)- 12 hour shifts = 36 hours per schedule

* Off Shift requirement: Minimum of 1-12 hr. every third schedule

*1 holiday/year

Tier III:

*Four (4) - 12 hour shifts = 48 hours per schedule

* No off shift requirement.

* 1 holiday/year

Off shift requirements= Weekend shift/PM/NOC shift.

  • Completion of respiratory therapy program.
  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license - State of Wisconsin, prior to start date.
  • CRT and RRT.
  • For PRN role - ideally require at least 1 year RCP work experience.
  • Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
  • Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification - American Heart Association (AHA) training is required within 6 months.

The respiratory therapist applies scientific knowledge, technical expertise and theory to practical clinical problems and is often required to exercise clinical judgment. Provides therapeutic, diagnostic, consultative and supportive services for neonatal through adult patients and their families. Actively participates in resuscitative and emergent situations. Functions within professional and hospital standards.

Basic personal computer skills required.
Must possess analytical skills necessary to resolve complex clinical problems relating to respiratory care issues and patient safety and welfare.
Ability to work independently and utilize time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to cope with physically and mentally stressful situations.
Interpersonal skills which frequently involve collaborating with peers, supervisors and medical staff on issues in order to accomplish objectives for patient care.
Ability to stand and walk for up to eighty percent of work time when performing job assignments or responding to emergency calls.
Ability to push or pull equipment that may weigh up to 170 lb. Ability to lift equipment/supplies up to 25 lb. Ability to lift or move patients from the neonate to adult. Ability to assemble complex equipment and perform fine motor skills.
