The role reports to the Maintenance Tool Room Manager NEMA and is located in St. Louis, Missouri. As a Tool and Die Maker, Pay Range is: $38.33 - $42.83 per hour 2nd shift differential .70 cents per hour 3rd shift differential $1.40 per hour Benefits include: Retirement Plan Immediate Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance Life Insurance Disability Insurance

Your responsibilities

  • Ability to understand and follow all ABB safety policies, safety training and hazard communication information. This includes but is not limited to wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as: hard hat, face shield, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, seat belt, googles where required
  • Ability to be exposed to excessive noise, also exposed to lubricants, oils, coolants, and grease
  • Frequently grip with hands, turn, push, pull, bend, and reach above shoulder level. This includes lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time during your shift
  • Possess the dexterity and hand-eye coordination to utilize various hand tools, power tools, and other equipment to complete a variety of complex task. Equipment includes but is not limited to: overhead cranes, electric chain hoists, pneumatic tools, lathe, Bridgeport, drill and radial drill presses, vertical and horizontal mills, hand and hydraulic surface grinders, cylinder and jig grinders, etc. Operate controls with knobs and buttons
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions. Ability to read, and understand, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and tool drawings and use a computer. Must also have the ability to operate, read, and interpret precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, optical comparator and other types of gages. Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair tooling.
  • Effectively communicate technical information to supervisors, coworkers and engineering.
  • Ability to maintain regular work attendance, including arriving at work on time and remaining at work until the end of the schedules work day.
  • Ability to work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice
Your background

  • Understand the personal protective equipment required for each step of the job, which includes; safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes and hearing protection and hardhat at times.
  • Must be able to grip, grasp, turn, push, pull, bend and reach above shoulder level
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Stand for long periods of time during your shift
  • Must be flexible to work overtime
  • Exposure to various sealants, coolants, greases and lubricants
  • Have excellent mechanical, math and communication skills
  • Able to use, but not limited to appropriate measuring devices; calipers, scales, micrometer, height gages, plug gages, thread gages, indicator and gauge blocks
  • Must have basis computer skills
  • Able to construct, alter or repair tools, jigs, fixtures, dies, molds or gauges involving a high degree of specialized skill and knowledge of tool building practices
  • Able to work at very close tolerances
  • Basic knowledge of stamping presses and processes
  • Basic metallurgies
  • Assemble and disassemble all types of dies
  • Determines when the sheared surfaces have a properly developed edge with a minimum amount of stock removed
  • Observes cutting action to insure good surface condition and is free of burrs, chatter and check marks
  • The job requires good judgment in planning the sequence of operations and executing the procedure in building and or preparing the die for service
  • Must be able to operate all conventional tool room equipment and have a working knowledge of CNC equipment including wire EDM equipment.
