Administratively reports to the Medical Director (Children's Dental Center) and works in conjunction with the Director, Pediatric Dental Residency Program and Director, Oral Health Services. The Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon is responsible to examine, diagnose and provide surgical, nonsurgical and adjunctive care for conditions involving disease, defect or injury to the functional and/or esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the head, mouth, teeth, gums, jaws and neck. Role performs, manages and supervises the oral maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) needs of identified patients of Children's Wisconsin, Children's Dental Center.

Education, Certification & Licensure:

  • Graduate of a dental school/university accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) resulting in a DDS or DMD Degree.
  • Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Successful completion of a minimum four year accredited oral and maxillofacial residency program (accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation) of the American Dental Association.
  • Licensed in the State of Wisconsin
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in the relevant specialty of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Federal Drug Enforcement Administration License
  • Must be credentialed and be a member in good standing of the Medical Dental Staff of Children's Wisconsin.
  • ACLS or PALS certified
  • Class I, II or III sedation permit issued by Dental Examining Board (DEB) from the State of WI

Experience & Skills:

  • Evidence of experience in and/or training in providing care in a hospital based setting.
  • Recent (over the past two years) surgical experience consisting of a minimum of 200 operative Oral Maxillofacial cases
  • Experience in private practice, teaching and/or research is preferred.
  • Provides services in a setting where there is potential for exposure to blood and other high risk body fluids.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous working conditions, such as minimal radiation, nitrous oxide gases, mercury vapors and contact with infectious diseases.
  • May require standing, stooping and strained posture during treatment and examination process.
