Construction Crew Leader

For one year, get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make an impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

  • Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction and home repair aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

    • Hiking- Our city hosts a variety of hiking trails from easy going to more rugged advanced hikes. Pecos Wilderness(30MIN-1HR)- offers fishing hiking and river tubing. Cochiti/Kewa Pueblo(Santa Domingo Pueblo)/ San Felipe Pueblo(30-45MIN)- Are Native American Pueblos located just south of Santa Fe.
    • Tent Rock/Cochiti Lake(30MIN)- The lake offers fishing and water sports. Tent rock is a national monument offers spectacular natural formation with hiking and views.
    • Los Alamos, NM (30MIN-1HR)- Offers museums, hiking and dinning.
    • Taos, NM(1HR-1.5HR)- Is a cultural hub of Norther New Mexico, home of Taos Pueblo and Taos Ski area.
    • Albuquerque, NM(1HR)- Is New Mexico's largest city, located about 1 hour south of Santa Fe. Offers museums, events, and dining.
  • Unique projects: We build Net Zero, solar-grid tied, Green homes; we are proud to be leading our area when it comes to these three factors. We recently had a home with a HERS score of -4 meaning the home should produce more energy than it consumes. We will be working on a multi-family (5 Families) ICF build in 2024 located close to the city center on land donated by the city. This complex will also incorporate a prefabricated top story. This is one of three upcoming projects for 2024.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
