Position Overview
Mentor and tutor first-generation, low income college bound high school students in a six-week summer program.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Mentor and tutor first-generation, low income college bound high school students in a six-week summer program.
2. Maintain open and proactive communication with professional counselors of the program.
3. Support academic learning in the classroom, supervised study sessions, and tutoring interactions.
4. Monitor student progress and foster student success.
5. Ensure that all students follow program rules and meet expectations for student conduct.
6. Attend all TC/TA meetings and student/group mandatory meetings to include periodical
7. Monitor meal compliance with Federal SFSP guidelines and follow these guidelines.
8. Attend all cultural and social events, program wide and within the individual cohorts of students to include attending the week-long college tour at the end of the six weeks of the program.
9. Facilitate a personal development class for student learning.
10. Contribute talent and interests to program's art classes
11. Provide guidance and advice to students about college life or life issues, remaining sensitive to students' needs while treating all students equally.
12. Living in residence hall during six-week summer program monitoring the floors and community spaces and fulfill all additional and related responsibilities such as (monitor student sign-in/out, and residential weekend).
13. Comply with all rules and regulations regarding university and pre-college program dormitory conduct, including visitation regulations, noise prohibitions, and personal conduct.
14. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Must be a full-time undergraduate and/or graduate student seeking a Bachelor's degree or beyond.
* Possess a cumulative grade point average at or higher than a 2.5.
* Related experience with student or community groups that address issues affecting low-income and minority populations.
* Ability to tutor students in the sciences, math, and English subjects.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
* Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Traveling in and out of state is a component of this job which includes longer days and lots of walking. Minimal lifting of supplies is required. Helping students move into the dorms and setting up their rooms is also another physical demand for the residential employees.
