Position Summary:

Sovah Health in Danville, VA. is seeking a Full Time Emergency Department Technician to join us on our Day Shift (7am-7pm). The ED Tech. will:

Provide direct patient care, technical support and input in planning care through communication with the RN and other patient care team members.

Under supervision of the RN or LPN designee, carries out Tech duties appropriate to assigned area.

Documents patient care given.

Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

Provides complete and accurate detailed records of patient concerns or medical records and refers need/concerns for resolution to appropriate resource.

Assists triage nurse with patient care duties, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

Inventories and ensures that adequate supplies, functioning equipment and departmental cleanliness are maintained.

Cleans and disinfects rooms, equipment, countertops, stretchers, and all patient contact items before and after patient use.

Receives, screens and routes telephone calls and messages appropriately.

Manages clerical functions necessary for the department and as assigned by the charge nurse.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Requires ability to read and write legibly and carry out direction promptly and accurately.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently.
  • Must exhibit effective communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly under stressful or emergency situations.
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling with the ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure continuity of care and nursing coverage to the patients of Sovah Health Danville on all units.

Certifications

  • Current certification from Virginia or North Carolina as an EMT (or military equivalent, i.e.: Military Occupational Specialty-Medical Specialist MOS91B or 91W)
  • or active, unrestricted Certified Nurses' Aide (CNA) certification by the Virginia Board of Nursing required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Applicants hired based on MOS equivalent must have completed state approved/recognized OEMS requirements for EMT or Virginia Board of Nursing Certification for CNA within 12 months of hire date.

Minimum Work Experience

  • Prior experience as an ED Tech, EMT or CNA in an Emergency Department setting or one year experience as a Clinical Associate at DRMC preferred
