Job Description
Job Purpose

The overall purpose of the Child/Parenting Specialist is to provide trauma-informed, evidence-based, client-centered parenting interventions to participants enrolled in the TIP Program.  They will support the parents and children in keeping families together in a safe and healthy environment.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, Master’s is strongly preferred
  • Minimum two years of experience in child services
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of current insurance (Must be able to pass a DMV records check)
  • Experience working with Veterans is preferred
  • Experience delivering services to SUD, COD, or homeless population is also preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide needs assessments for all children in Veteran household
  2. Provide for, or refer, a developmental assessment of all children in the Veteran household and refer for interventions as needed
  3. Incorporate children’s needs and goals into the household’s client-centered Individualized Stability Plan (ISP)
  4. Collaborate with TIP Case Manager to identify, access, and coordinate needed child services such as: enrolling in healthcare, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), academic services, and other identified needs
  5. Assist parents with accessing concrete supports such as: household goods, food, medical, and pediatric care
  6. Provide hands-on assistance and support for parents to model and promote parenting abilities
  7. Provide age appropriate activities, focusing on parent/child interactions and play activities
  8. Provide education on parenting topics tailored to the family such as: child brain development, developmental stages and expectations of children, self-esteem development, disciplinary techniques, daily schedules and routines, feeding, diapering, bathing and hygiene, safety, family rules, expression of emotions, health, and the prevention of risky behaviors
  9. Ensure that each unit is safe and provides the basic needs for children
  10. Provide Child Welfare workers with weekly case reports for all Child Welfare involved families
  11. Coordinate with Child Welfare agencies to arrange visits for children in out-of-home care
  12. Perform all required record keeping and paperwork
  13. Attend all required meetings
  14. Support goals of the Center for Veterans Issues, Inc. (CVI) by working at events such as: Stand-down, Military and Veteran Family Day at the Zoo, Point-in-time, and the various CVI fundraisers
  15. Other duties as requested or assigned
