The Senior Environmental Specialist will be responsible for providing support to the organization's Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety Management System (EHSMS). The position requires the support of the organization's environmental compliance program globally. This position requires a highly driven individual to produce world-class environmental results across multiple business functions and geographies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Regulatory Compliance Monitoring
  • Performs the planning, inspection, sampling, and recordkeeping requirements for all environmental compliance programs.
  • Ensures that local, state and federal environmental regulations, codes and rules are followed at multiple locations.
  • Investigates incidents (including releases) to determine root causes and prepares/directs corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Conducts and oversees monthly inspections of hazardous waste accumulation/chemical storage areas.
  • Establishes an open line communication with local regulating authorities.
  • Supporting Corporate Initiatives
  • Supports development, maintenance, and achievement of corporate goals, strategic initiatives designed to produce operational excellence.
  • Supports data collection and analysis for environmental sustainability programs.
  • Implements and perform EHS compliance audits and ISO 14001 audits according to Generac procedures to ensure that consistent, best-in-class results and compliance are followed to enable operational excellence. Prepares reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Monitors site compliance with internal compliance calendars.
  • Environmental Permitting and Reporting
  • Leads air preparing permit applications and submittals for agency review.
  • Leads other environmental permitting as needed.
  • Responsible for tracking and analysis of data for environmental reporting.
  • Coordinates environmental activities with third party service providers as needed.
  • Site Personnel Support
  • This position provides remote and on-site environmental support to facility EHS associates and engages employees at all levels throughout the company.
  • Trainer for all environmental program training courses including development / refining of those courses.
  • Serves as a hazardous waste specialist, leading efforts to reduce hazardous waste and implement recycling programs.
  • Provides input to the Corporate Drive to Zero EHS program.
  • Provide miscellaneous support to the Sustainability Manager as needed.
  • Training and audit support for occupational safety programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
  • 3 years' experience implementing the requirements of environmental permits and reporting;
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to other Generac locations up to 20% of the time.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with implementation and audits with ISO 14001 or similar EMS programs;
  • Experience with emission inventories and PTE calculations of major and minor sources;
  • Experience preparing semi-annual and annual environmental reports (e.g., Tier II, emission inventory, hazardous waste, TRI, air permit monitoring, etc.);
  • Engine manufacturing experience;
  • CHMM, CEP, or equivalent certification (or ability to obtain).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent knowledge of air permitting (including Title V) regulations and industrial wastewater treatment systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with management, teams and individuals across multiple functions within the organization;
  • Solid understanding of EPA, WDNR, DOT, IATA, IMDG and other local requirements;
  • Strong knowledge of ETQ;
  • Organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PPT, Word, etc)
  • Problem solving skills, help frame logical conclusions and arrive at effective solutions;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
