Job Summary

Involves managing or performing the administrative services or managing the full general operations of an academic or non-academic organization(s). Administrative services include activities in finance and human resources and may also include IT, facilities, or student services. General management activities include long and short range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing all activities of multi-disciplinary departments through subordinate management staff.

The Department of Community Health Systems (CHS) is one of four departments in the School of Nursing. CHS prepares students to receive MS and PhD degrees in one of four specialty areas, including Occupational and Environmental Health; Adult Gerontology Primary Care; Psych/Mental Health; and Advanced Practice Public Health Nursing.

The Analyst to the Chair plays a key role in departmental operations by providing analytical and administrative support to the Chair, Vice Chairs, SON Admin Director, and Admin Operations Supervisor.

The incumbent will independently analyze and prioritize issues pertaining to the Chair in a fast-paced and complex environment in addition to collaborating and fostering positive working relationships with other school stakeholders.

Duties include direct support to the Chair by coordinating daily activities and communications and managing complex and demanding schedules. The Analyst to the Chair will provide administrative support for Department-level meetings and events.

Will compile, analyze and present data used for department planning, scholarly work, and web communication. Develop a tracking system for compiling and reviewing faculty work activity. Provide support and oversee departmental process for Academic recruitment, including preparation of offer letters and on-boarding new hires. Will plan and implement meetings and events. Perform short- and long-term planning for the organization.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Box
  • Knowledge and experience working -in an academic institution or research university.
