Position Overview | The Public Safety Officer's primary duties are to patrol buildings and grounds within an assigned area on foot or in a vehicle; secure and unsecure buildings; report unusual or suspicious circumstances or conditions; activate and de-activate alarm systems; Monitor and report obvious malfunctions in building physical plant mechanical systems such as heating, air conditioning, lighting, water leaks, etc. Provide assistance, directions, and information to University personnel and visitors. Detect and report any non-University affiliated persons in areas where it is not permissible. Render basic first aid as appropriate and request medical assistance as necessary. Perform any and all related duties as required or assigned. |
Duties and Responsibilities | 1. Patrol the campus by foot or by vehicle and answer calls to perform locking and unlocking functions, check alarms, or checking parking issues. 2. Investigate and record irregularities which occur during assigned shifts and take necessary action within limits or prescribed policies and procedures to correct the situation. 3. Prepare written reports of accidents or irregularities. 4. Perform additional duties as assigned |
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | * Must be at least18 years of age. * Possess High School Diploma or Equivalent. * Must possess a valid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Driver's License with favorable driving record at time of appointment. * Be a citizen of the U.S. or be a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship (Government Code Section 1031(a)). * Be free of any felony conviction and certain misdemeanor convictions. * Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. * Effective interpersonal skills to resolve a wide variety of sensitive situations. * Ability to maintain strict confidentiality; ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently. * A strong commitment to providing top-quality customer service. * Ability to interact professionally and effectively with diverse publics is required. * Demonstrated ability to think and act effectively in emergency and sensitive situations. * Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and drug screen. |
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | * Prior related experience (preferably in campus security) or comparable formal education is preferred. * Strong interest in the application of community policing methods. |
