POSITION SUMMARY

The Patient Care Partner-Medical Assistant (PCP-MA) has a vital role within the KCHC/Pillar Health integrated care team model. As a key assistant to an assigned care provider(s), the PCP-MA ensures a well-prepared, patient and family centered, safe, timely and efficient office visit. The PCP-MA works in the context of a care team that is co-managed by the Medical Provider and the Registered Nurse-Care Coordinator (RNCC) to ensure effective management of a patient panel using proactive and planned care goals while also coordinating the care team necessary to achieve them. The Patient Care Partner-Medical Assistant (PCP-MA) will perform delegated clinical, clerical, and administrative duties within the supervising physician’s scope of practice consistent with the MA’s education, training, and experience. Such duties shall be active and continuous but shall not necessarily require the physical presence of the supervising physician at the time and place that the services are rendered. The PCP-MA may receive duties delegated by the RNCC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

PRIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES

Maintenance of a Safe and Functional Clinic Environment

· Performs clinic opening procedures at the start of each clinic day to ensure it is prepared for the planned patient care.

· Performs exam room turnover between patients to ensure room is clean, and contains equipment and supplies required for the next scheduled visit.

· Performs terminal cleaning and restocking at the end of the day and as needed based on volume.

· Maintains general facility integrity and cleanliness in accordance with environment of care standards.

· Applies infection control practices including but not limited to hand hygiene, isolation and masking requirements, cleaning, and sterilization procedures.

· Participates in the maintenance of supply par level stocking and reordering.

· Ensures clinical equipment and instruments are in good working order and maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.

Pre-visit Planning

· Reviews daily schedule and patient records for anticipated screening, needs, or other issues to be addressed during the visit.

· Ensures availability of required patient information required during the planned visit. Collects information that is missing before the provider visits.

Patient Flow Management

· Facilitates flow of the patient visit to maintain an on-time patient schedule and efficiency of care for scheduled appointment length and purpose.

· Greets patient and family members applying customer service standards in all interaction. Ensures their privacy and comfort in preparation for the provider visit.

· Performs complete patient rooming process including documentation of general and age specific data, vital signs, and other measurements.

· Ensures pre-visit documentation for provider to complete the visit based on screenings or other requirements.

· Complete medication reconciliation and pend refills as needed.

· Follow up on overdue labs per policy.

· Listening to providers Voice mail at the beginning of every shift, midday and 1 hour before the end of each shift. You are responsible for returning all calls to the patient to answer their concerns and if you are unable to answer those concerns either bring them to the provider or the RN Care Coordinator.

Medical Assisting During Patient Visit

· Assists medical provider with patient examinations, treatments, tests, and procedures utilizing appropriate clean or sterile techniques.

· Documents accurately according to PCMH and MU standards.

· Reinforces instructions and ensures patient is provided with a visit summary.

· Provides reinforcement and instructs patient and/or family regarding follow-up for continued testing, referrals, and next visit.

· Schedules patient for next visit as directed.

Medication Administration

· Administers ordered injections and immunizations in accordance with policy and procedure.

· Documents medication administration in accordance with policy and procedure

· Ensures immunization information properly reflected in the Wisconsin Immunization Registry

· Properly obtains and constitutes medications and vaccinations from medication room/area ensuring documentation of appropriate sign-out.

· Completes daily checks for medication and sample drug outdates. Documents on designated form

Diagnostic Testing

· Assisting with and Perform Diagnostic Testing

· Obtains specimens for routine laboratory procedures, such as urinalysis and simple blood tests and cultures.

· Assist in collection of specimens during medical procedures.

· Labels and prepares specimens for shipping.

· Performs approved point of care tests.

· Perform TB tests.

· Obtains 12 Lead EKGs.

· Participates in CLIA and OSHA compliance and monitoring.

· Perform visual acuity tests.

· Assist with audiometric testing.

Effective Teamwork and Communication

· Actively participates in daily huddles to plan activities and resources for the day

· Participates in pre-visit planning activities with assigned provider, RNCC, and other care team members.

· Communicates anticipated bottlenecks and delays in the daily schedule; works with team to adapt to get back on track.

 

SECONDARY TASKS AND DUTIES

Perform other related duties as required, which include but are not limited to:

· Participation in quality improvement and management activities

· Work on KCHC Quality Collaborative, as needed.

· Understand procedure and diagnosis coding.

· Keep medical records in accordance with procedures and forms.

· Follow principles of medical ethics for medical assistant and maintain patient confidentiality.

· Recognize and use medical terminology.

· Additional duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

· Graduate from a Medical Assistant Program, Must produce Official School Diploma or Official School Transcripts

· Must obtain Certified Medical Assistant status within 6 months of hire and maintain certification.

· Must be CPR Certified

· Ability to communicate in Spanish (oral and written) preferred.

Physical/Environmental

· Must be current on all ACIP immunizations & PPD Status

· Sitting less than 10% of the time

· Walking and standing greater than 90% of the time

· Occasional bending and lifting

Availability

Availability to work up to 40 hours during clinic operating hours, typically Monday – Thursday, 7am – 7pm, Friday, 7am – 5pm and rotating Saturdays 7am – 3pm.

Must be able and flexible to work evening and Saturday hours as required by patient demand and provider schedule.

Pay to commensurate with experience.

$2,000 Hiring Bonus*

*Full-time Medical Assistants hired between October 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023 will be eligible to receive a hiring bonus paid in 4 equal installments, every 6 months. Employee must be actively employed to receive payout and maintain perfect attendance within the first 90 days. Internal candidates are not eligible.
