General Overview: As a Sr. Commodity Manager, this role will be an integral part in assessing and benchmarking technical competencies of external manufacturing suppliers globally for assigned commodities. This candidate must be strong in time management, creative thinking, achieve departmental KPIs, and be adaptable when new projects and priorities are provided.

Responsibilities and Duties Include and Not Limited to:

  • Utilize strategic sourcing processes and methods to select suppliers based on the best combination of cost, capability, quality, reliability, delivery and receptivity of supplier to strict measurements and controls
  • Work with suppliers to establish performance goals with respect to cost, quality and delivery.
  • Contribute to negotiations of supplier contracts of sale, including payment terms, deliveries, price, freight terms, currency exchange, raw material fluctuation and inventory levels
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal operations, engineering, and quality to ensure a complete and comprehensive action plan is developed to port internal operations to suppliers
  • Coordinate resolution of quality issues with suppliers and manage non-conforming material (NCM) returns to suppliers as requested
  • Lead continuous improvement teams to investigate and eliminate reoccurring NCM issues at supplier sites, in coordination with Purchasing and Quality organizations
  • Drive spend analysis activities identifying strategic sourcing opportunities within assigned commodities and throughout the supply chain environment

Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Strategic thinking skills: Ability to make sound business judgments related to strategic supply philosophies and initiatives.
  • Technical skills: Solid negotiation skills; excellent knowledge of operations management and supply chain processes. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Project Management, and Excel). "Hands-on" knowledge with ERP systems.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Crisp verbal skills plus effective listening skills. Experienced in effective cross-functional communication, decision making and conflict resolution. Willingness to ask and honestly answer tough questions. Treat other's opinions with respect. Foster open communications and candid discussions. Share information that helps others succeeds. Keep others in the loop.

  • Financial Analysis Knowledge: Knowledge and application of the principles of financial analysis and capital projects justification (e.g. life cost analysis, internal rate of return, net present value, economic profit, economic value added)
  • Project Management: Ability to manage projects to ensure successful delivery (on time with budget, meeting agreed upon success criteria) to establish clear goals and accountabilities. This includes the ability to develop project plans, allocate resources, identify potential issues/risk and develop contingency plans.
  • Negotiations: Ability to influence and negotiate optimal arrangements between internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Supplier Contracts: Knowledge of the legal terminology and language related to supplier and or vendor agreements and contracts.
  • Persuasive: Demonstrates healthy and productive influencing ability. Gains the respect and confidence of others. Builds constructive and effective relations.
  • Drives for continuous improvement: Align continuous improvement with the strategic objectives of the organization; drives process excellence; make continuous improvement part of creating a high-performance culture; blends the best practices from different methodologies and focus on data, not emotions. Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain or Engineering required
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in Supply Chain
  • CPIM and/or CPM certification desired
  • Experience in sourcing in a low volume, highly engineered environment, a plus
