| Posting Summary | The Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences is seeking a positive, dependable, detail-oriented Field/Laboratory Technical Assistant to assist with oceanographic research in Antarctica from October 2022 through March/April 2023. This position will be responsible for leading the field team in sampling and data collection for the Palmer Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) project (http://pal.lternet.edu/), monitoring phytoplankton dynamics in response to rapidly changing physical conditions (temperature warming, sea ice melt, etc.) along the West Antarctic Peninsula. Job Responsibilities include: 1.) Field excursions out on a small research vessel 3 days a week deploying oceanographic instruments and collecting water samples, processing water samples in the lab, maintaining data logs, and basic data analysis. 2.) 6-day work weeks, sometimes with long hours on field days. 3.) Managing field team while deployed. 4.) Setting up and packing lab at start and end of field season. |

| Minimum Education and Experience | Requires a Bachelor's degree in Marine Sciences, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field. Experience with phytoplankton and oceanographic methods, such as Chlorophyll a extractions, water filtration, CTD and Niskan bottle sampling, Optical instrumentation, fluorometry. |

Remote field site only accessible by a 4 day trip on a ship, departing from Chile. . Must be able to pass Physical Qualification medical and dental checks. . Must have a Valid/unexpired Passport |
