Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer Internship or Co-Op
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Company Overview
Hayes Performance Systems is located in Mequon, Wisconsin, only about a 20 minute drive from the city of Milwaukee. Here, we make brakes/ calipers and master cylinders for various different types of vehicles such as Motorcycles, ATV, UTV, Oshkosh Defense, Agriculture, Snowmobiles, we also have our own Bike division where we make more than just brakes for the bicycles. We also make the forks, wheel bearings, spokes and everything besides the frame itself.
General Summary: This position will be reporting directly to the Engineer Manager. We also offer benefits, paid vacation and holidays upon full-time hire. We have very flexible hours and schedules can easily be accommodated to the need of the student. This can either be an Internship, Co-Op opportunity or a part time job during the school year and full time in the summer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and plan to ensure maximum utilization of human, material and machine assets, workforce utilization, space requirements and workflow, layout equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Perform workstation layout and took equipment design
  • Perform "prove out capabilities" of manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, fixturing. Etc.
  • Create and maintain set up sheets, tooling, fixturing. Etc.
  • Work with vendors to rest/trial upgrade of existing tooling, machines and equipment to improve manufacturing processes
  • Establish and implement standard date and work measurement data to develop
  • Develop implement, troubleshoot, maintain and improve manufacturing processes and methods
  • Create, coordinate and maintain documentation relating to process methods, control plans, APQP, etc.
  • Provide floor support to manufacturing and business unit departments as needed
  • Work with cross functional product teams as required
  • Train new operators on equipment, processes and changes
  • Follow all established ISO/Quality procedures and participates in continuous improvement.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as situation dictates. Complies with all company policies and instructions
Key Skills
  • Must have technical skill and knowledge of manufacturing/assembly processes and methods, tools and fixturing
  • Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Knowledge of CAD and SPC software applications and systems
  • Knowledge of APQP, PPAP and PFMEA processes
  • Knowledge and/or experience in CNC programming
  • Proficiency in PC software applications (MS Office, etc.)
  • Good project management skills
  • Good problem analysis and problem solving skills
  • Quality minded with strong attention to detail
  • Good organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate, write, and train in group or individual situations
