The Patient Sitter provides constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
In the execution of job duties, it is the universal expectation that all tasks are performed with a patient centered focus, while also seeking opportunities to continually improve core processes. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need, which may include but is not limited to: holidays, extended shifts, night and/or weekend shifts, standby and/or on-call.
Essential Functions
Observes and monitors patient behavior and reports changes or concerns to the nursing staff. Accompanies patient off the unit for all tests or procedures.
Evaluates patient's environment for possible hazards and removes those hazards. Keeps patient room neat and orderly.
Communicates frequently with patients, visitors, and co-workers. Promptly calls for assistance, as needed.
Demonstrates proper infection control practice and adheres to Infection Control Policies and Procedures and OSHA standards. Follows isolation procedure according to policy.
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Minimum Work Experience
Preferred - Healthcare experience
