Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Personal Trainer In-Training position is a developmental position for individuals who are within 90 days of taking their Personal Training Certification exam. During the window of time prior to becoming a Certified Personal Trainer, our PT in Training staff will shadow certified personal trainers, learn program design, schedule management and client service. PTs in Training will also learn to perform ACTIVATE appointments. This position will take lead in keeping the fitness areas clean and organized as well as learn preventative maintenance on the fitness equipment. If the PT in Training staff does not achieve a Personal Training Certification within the 90-day window, they may be converted to Building Supervisors if deemed appropriate by branch leadership.

Personal Trainers in Training will report to and be under the direction of the Fitness and Wellness Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be in progress toward taking a nationally registered Personal Certification.
  2. Shadow Certified Personal Trainers
  3. Develop relationships and assist members, helping with member retention.
  4. Keep Fitness floor clean and organized.
  5. Learn and conduct ACTIVATE appointments.
  6. Keep a safe, clean, and fun atmosphere for our members.
  7. Adhere to all YMCA policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  8. Educate, motivate, and inspire clients in a positive manner while adhering to the YMCAs core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.
  9. Promote personal training packages being offered.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Must achieve a nationally recognized Personal Training certification (ex: ACE, ACSM, NASM) within 90 days of employment.
  3. A degree or background in kinesiology, exercise science, health and human performance, physical therapy, exercise physiology or related field is preferred.
  4. Must be able to successfully pass CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment or hold current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  5. Must love working with people and feel comfortable working 1 on 1 and in group settings.
  6. Must be organized and professional.
  7. Must be energetic, motivating and have excellent communication and people skills.
  8. Current First Aid/CPR Certifications preferred.
  9. Flexible schedule is required including weekdays and weekends.
