Position Overview
Marquette University's OPUS College of Engineering is excited to announce a national search for an Associate or Full Professor to serve as the inaugural Engineering Education Program Director.
Opportunity: The successful candidate will lead a well-funded effort initiated by the college to build a focus area in engineering education pedagogy, including creating a new graduate program in engineering education, supporting research in engineering education, creating new educational research labs, mentoring graduate students in engineering education, and reimagining an engineering curriculum that better prepares students for the challenges and pressing needs of industry.

The appointment is expected to be made at the rank of Associate or Full Professor depending on the candidate's qualifications, with an expected start as soon as the Fall 2023 semester.

Marquette University, founded in 1881, is a university located in downtown metropolitan Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Milwaukee provides access to a variety of cultural and entertainment amenities such as theater, music venues and major sports franchises, as well as easy access to a variety of year-round outdoor recreation activities. Marquette Engineering, which was founded in 1908, is the largest Catholic, Jesuit Engineering College in the nation with over 1,250 undergraduate, 200 graduate students. In 2022, the college had over $13M in extramural funded research grants. The College, which has joint programs with the Medical College of Wisconsin, currently has four departments: Biomedical, Civil/Construction/Environmental, Electrical/Computer and Mechanical engineering. The college offers nine undergraduate degrees, seven masters and five PhD degrees.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Engineering Education Program Director will work with other faculty and graduate students to develop programming, curriculum, and teaching strategies that will: 1) attract and prepare students for the engineering profession; 2) avoid educational disparities and improve retention, success, and matriculation among a more diverse populations of engineering students; and 3) better prepare engineering graduates to meet the changing needs of industry.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ph.D. with four-seven years of college teaching experience. Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness and advancing scholarship commensurate with the appointment to a senior rank with tenure.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will have a PhD in an engineering discipline and have demonstrated expertise in engineering education research. The successful candidate will have a passion to address the changes in student demographics, culture and trends (gender, race, ethnicity, culture, STEM preparation, learning strategies, use of technology, socialization trends and parental influence, etc.) and have the skill-sets to build and teach programming dedicated to engineering education.
