Under general supervision of the Coordinator of Tutoring Services & Academic Support, and with the support of Educational Assistants-Academic Support, primary duties involve helping students with their academic studies in an effort to improve student retention and completion of MATC MATH courses
Tutors work up to 19 hours per week and may be funded through grant monies that have been allocated to the Tutoring Services & Academic Support budget.
Tutors have the important task of helping students succeed in their coursework while pursuing their careers. Tutors also have the opportunity to develop employment skills, establish job references, and attain tutoring credentials within a professional academic environment.
Tutors receive formal training in the principles and skills of adult education. With training and experience, tutors can earn internationally-recognized certifications through MATC and the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
