Job Details:

Under general supervision, this position prepares and paints surfaces within Hospital complex. Keeps adjacent areas and surfaces protected and the work are in a neat and clean condition. Receives and delivers paint and supplies to job sites from shop.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares surfaces to be painted by washing scraping, patching and sanding as necessary.
  • Tapes and finishes joints of dry wall and applies joint compound.
  • Moves furniture such as desks, file cabinets, tables, beds and other items as required to perform work.
  • Applies prime and finish coats of paint and satin to surfaces.
  • Delivers paint and materials from shop to work site and returns same at the end of the day.
  • Protects adjacent areas and equipment with drop cloths or masking tape and paper.
Job Qualifications:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to visually differentiate colors. Problem solved are limited in complexity.
  • Consequence of errors is limited.
  • Requires occasional to moderate concentration.
  • Communication skills required are limited

EDUCATION:

  • Ability to read and write at a level generally acquired through completion of Junior High School.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires three years of experience in the trade.
  • Requires one to three months experience on the job at NEMCH.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

  • Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:
  • Knowledge of growth and development
  • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
  • Provide age specific communication

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Moderate to strenuous physical effort required, such as ability to bend, crouch, climb ladders, stretch, carry ladders and staging and constant use of hands, arms, and legs with considerable time standing.
  • Frequent contact with paint materials and odors (unpleasant conditions).
  • Frequent contact of hands with paint materials, paint removers and other related chemicals. Occasional contact with sick patients and laboratory test animals (hazardous conditions).
  • Frequent contact with employees in work areas.
