We are seeking individuals who enjoy building relationships and positively impacting the lives of people with disabilities. Our clients' needs vary, but what stays the same is our commitment to meeting them where they are. As a Direct Support Professional, you will work with someone in their home, place of employment, or around the community to help them live a full and independent life.

Responsibilities

The support provided by our professionals can vary depending on the needs of our client. Below is a sample of the range of responsibilities for this role: 

  1. Assist clients with daily living skills such as meal preparation and medication administration
  2. Take clients on outings within the community such as visits to the library, grocery shopping, or other activities that match the interests of the client.
  3. Observe clients, charting and reporting changes in their conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.
  4. Help clients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking.
  5. Work as part of a team to assess client needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions.
  6. Keep financial records, make appointments, or perform other clerical duties on behalf of clients.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required.  
  • Solid computer skills with ability to quick learn new software programs
  • Ability to independently problem solve in potentially complex or stressful situations.
  • Patience, ability to clearly explain concepts
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills
  • Ability to use personal vehicles to safely transport clients to appointments or on outings.

Other Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid Driver’s License and a properly insured personal vehicle.
  • Prior experience working with people with disabilities preferred
  • Experience in special education, psychology, or related field preferred
  • Regularly required to lift 25 lbs. and occasionally lift or move 50-100 lbs. (assisted)

Varies, depending on individual clients needs. We have several clients throughout Southeastern Wisconsin looking for support. When we set up an interview, we can set you up with a client that's needs and location work well for you and the client.
