Job Description
Job Summary

A Youth Volleyball Official is responsible for enforcing the volleyball rules, ensuring that all games start on time, and providing a safe and positive environment for participants. Applicant must have prior knowledge of volleyball either as a participant, coach or official. Applicant must be available Fridays from 4:30 PM - 10:00 PM, and/or Saturdays from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Hours are dependent on team registrations.

Position Summary
  • Officiates and enforces volleyball rules and regulations per WIAA and MPS Recreation guidelines.
  • Report for duty as assigned at least 30 minutes early.
  • Team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude.
  • Model positive language and behavior.
  • Be professional in the work place, including dress, at all times.
  • Effectively communicate with other recreation staff and patrons regarding volleyball rules upon request.
  • Follows, administers, and implements MPS Recreation procedures, policies, programs and services.
  • Have the physical ability to set up/break down sites as needed.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.
Supervision Required

Works under the direction of the League Director at their assigned work site.

Job Requirements
  • General knowledge of volleyball rules and regulations.
  • Behave and appear in a fair, consistent and professional manner.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to attend all MANDATORY applicable in-service trainings.

Preferred Experience
  • WIAA Certified Volleyball Official.
  • Previous experience working with children in a public setting that involves diverse populations.
  • CPR/First Aid training/certification.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of volleyball rules and regulations
  • Patience in dealing with stressful situations.
  • Advance communication skills with participants, coaches, community members, building staff, and support staff.
  • Ability to participate interactively with a diverse group of youth.
  • Ability to work with well with coworkers and support staff.
Working Environment

This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possible loud noises when exposed to activities in the gym or similar environment. Staff will be required to supervise groups of children and adults as well as assist in the accommodation of children and/or adults with disabilities (within parameters of provided training).
