Michael Best & Friedrich is expecting some exciting growth in 2021! We have opened this resume database for Legal Assistants so we can connect with fantastic talent looking to join our Firm. Our Legal Assistants work from fun, collaborative offices, supporting our amazing attorneys and paralegals across the country. Our unique team structure allows for flexibility and support of a peer group as you each foster great relationships with your assigned attorneys. This team structure also allows us to hire a variety of experience levels on each team - our systems and training processes provides great on-the-job learning experiences.

Our legal assistants will conduct tasks including:

  • Transcribing, typing, proofreading and finalizing legal documents, correspondence, memos, charts, billing/invoices, and reports
  • Preparing and submitting expense reports, proformas, and timecard entry support
  • Assisting with filing - electronic or paper-based documentation
  • Receiving and reviewing incoming documents
  • Uploading documents to firm's Extranet for client's use
  • Client billing support, including: coding, entering task codes, and conducting client portal maintenance
  • Communicating billing issues and matter status items to clients
  • Preparing documents for filing, researching application or filing statuses
  • Navigating and requesting research from internal or external sources
  • Using practice area-specific websites and portals (court case portals, trademark office systems, etc.)
  • Coordinating meetings across multiple persons and platforms (Outlook, Zoom, Teams, BlueJeans, Webex, etc.)
  • Opening of new clients, new matters, conducting conflict checks, NBI, and subcase/new matters
  • Assisting with preparation of new client proposals
  • Leveraging software applications, i.e. Visio, Chem Draw, OneNote, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Managing an extremely active calendar of appointments, agendas, meetings, and travel plans for multiple attorneys
  • Coordinating travel, meetings, and conference call arrangements for attorneys
  • Other administrative and support activities, as assigned

The requirements for any specific opening shall be listed on each posting, specific to the practice area and required experience level needed in that specific team. Generally speaking, all of our Legal Assistants positions will have these minimum requirements; and some posting may have more advanced requirements:

  • HS/HSED is required; trade school, technical diploma/certificate or college preferred, but not necessary
  • Excellent client service mindset and customer service skills
  • Ability to excel in a team-oriented, detail-oriented, collaborative, and fast-paced professional environment
  • Strong computing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong proofreading, typing (WPM) and transcription/dictation skills
  • Relevant legal assistant and practice area experience is helpful, but not always necessary
  • Prior experience using software platforms (e.g.: Anaqua, iManage, OneNote, ChromeRiver, Visio) is helpful, but not always necessary
  • Valid authorization to work in the U.S.
