HGA is a leading, award winning architecture, interior design, engineering and planning firm with an excellent opportunity for an experienced and talented Fire Alarm Systems Designer to join ourMilwaukee office. Our portfolio includes the design of health care facilities, corporate headquarters, labs, museums, higher education buildings and campuses, and infrastructure improvements.

Building codes and technologies are rapidly evolving. We are looking for professionals with expert knowledge of applicable codes and regulations; extensive knowledge of standard engineering practices, techniques, and procedures; excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with both internal and external clients to solve problems on HGA's projects across the country.

Preferred candidates will have:

    Bachelor's degree in technology / engineering or related field required. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering desired.
  • Four or more years of consulting engineering experience with emphasis on Fire Alarm System design tasks on commercial, municipal, institutional, healthcare, and government facilities
  • Professional Engineer Certification recognized by a state licensing board desired
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) status desired
  • Successful completion of the fire protection engineering written exam administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveys (NCEES) desired
  • CBO, CFPS, or NICET certification desired
  • AutoCAD, BIM and Microsoft Office skills required


  1. Responsible for the design review of fire alarm systems.
  2. Participation in design review meetings and workshops.
  3. Work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation, company standard practice, and professional experience.
  4. Coordination with all applicable local authority departments to obtain approval at all stages of the project.
  5. Coordination with other discipline engineers as applicable.
