Job Description

Under the direction of the department leadership, manages product inventories including the receiving, preparing, packaging and arranging delivery of products consistent with all regulatory and compliance standards, while meeting or exceeding the customers’ expectations. Demonstrates the ability to take

initiative, multi-task, and build a collaborative environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

Processes orders for blood, components and derivative products consistent with regulatory standards while meeting customer expectations
Follows procedures pertaining to the proper storage of Red Blood Cells, platelet products and frozen products
Processes homecare derivative orders consistent with state pharmacy regulations under the direction of a licensed pharmacist (if applicable)
Coordinates delivery of orders to meet customer expectations
Coordinates pickup of samples for diagnostic testing meeting customer expectations
Manages available product inventories to maximize efficient shipment of blood and derivative products
Irradiates blood products meeting regulatory and customer requirements, if applicable
Manages products coming in from other institutions meeting regulatory and inventory standards
Responds appropriately to product withdrawal, recall and lookback cases
Labels products to meet regulatory and inventory requirements
Works weekend, holiday rotations and on-call, as needed
Other duties, as assigned



Education

High school diploma or equivalent required


Experience

1-6 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience


Skills and Knowledge

Demonstrates sensitivity and seeks to understand customers’ perspective
Accountable for delivery of own work activities based on agreed timescales and quality
Able to perform basic problem-solving techniques
Above average attention to detail


Ability to adjust work activities based on volume and priority changes
Ability to read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures, maintenance instructions, and other department manuals
Ability to work cooperatively as well as independently, including without direct supervision
Understands military time


Tools and Technology

General office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine)
Computer (desk top, lap top, tablet)
Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Software systems (Blood Establishment Computer Systems, Title 21, Hospital Management System)
Freezers, refrigerators, box cutter
Blood processing related equipment including but not limited to incubator/ rotator, irradiator, label printer
Temperature alarm monitoring equipment


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS



Physical demands: Daily tasks include a mixture of standing, sitting, and walking. Hand-eye coordination with significant manual dexterity and frequent repetitive hand motions. Reaching above the head and lifting up to 40-pound items occurs occasionally. Visual and hearing acuity to perform essential responsibilities. Looking at computer screens or small items is common. 
Mental demands: Requires ability to maintain a routine of intense concentration for long periods, as well as excellent cognitive, analytical, and memory ability. 
Environmental hazards: Work with biohazardous material is completed in a laboratory environment wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following internal policies, training, and OSHA standards. Moderate level of noise is present in the laboratory. May perform tasks within cold room for short periods of time. Potential exposure to low levels of gamma or x-ray radiation minimized by following ALARA precautions.
