Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Tissue Recovery, the Specialist Birth Tissue Acquisition performs all assigned tasks related to the successful acquisition of donated birth tissue post-delivery.  The process includes, but is not limited to, the sterile collection, labeling, handling and shipping of donated birth tissue.  The Specialist Birth Tissue Acquisition maintains positive, professional relationships with hospital staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Coordinate the daily recovery of birth tissue.
  • Acquires donated birth tissues for transplant and research following Versiti Organ and Tissue procedures and protocols.
  • Package, label, and transport and/or coordinate transport of donated birth tissue.
  • Follows aseptic technique and OR protocol for the acquisition and labeling of donated tissue.
  • Transports or coordinates transport of blood samples and/or cultures to assigned destinations.
  • Assists with birth tissue supply management.
  • Ensures accurate and thorough completion of donor chart documentation.
  • Provide education, information and consultation to hospital staff as needed to ensure that all aspects of the birth tissue donation process are understood, supported, practiced and implemented.
  • Identify and advise management of problems/issues that may arise with hospital staff, physicians, or nurse manager, and/or need for process improvements.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships by providing a high level of customer service through timely communication, presence and visibility

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
 
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Associate or bachelor degree in a health care field preferred.

Experience
 
  • Minimum of one year in healthcare or related field. 
  • OB Tech / Surgical Tech Certificate preferred.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to use a personal computer, Microsoft Office and the internet for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Strong attention to detail and ensures accuracy in completing paperwork.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task in challenging and stressful situations, and utilizing conflict resolution skills to provide a productive work flow.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology, medications, disease processes and human anatomy.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and rapport-building skills including the ability to listen actively and respond with empathy, tact, and sensitivity.
  • Ability to apply judgment and fact finding to solve problems.
  • Takes a positive approach to working within a team and is flexible with others.
Tools and Technology
  • General office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine).
  • Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
