Global Indirect Procurement Category Manager (18017644)

Thisrole is responsible for the Leadership of a global sub-category for outsourcedresearch (CRO) and high value research consumables & instrumentation withinthe Global Science Category. This person will provide close functional andstrategic direction to a geographically dispersed group of regionalsub-category managers and R&D stakeholders. The development, validation,and sustainable implementation of the assigned sub-category strategy is also animportant function within this position. To align sourcing strategy with thecomplex requirements of a diverse R&D organization, with ambitions to moreeffectively leverage outsourced research providers.

Thisperson will work closely with the Global and Regional Category Managers and theProcurement Business Partner organization to ensure global businessrequirements are clearly understood and accounted for in the sub-categorystrategy. To provide in-depth supply market knowledge across the CRO andconsumables supply market and translate into strategic actions. Manage risk withthird parties as well as achieve operational compliance across all IndirectProcurement activities relevant to the sub-category; and deliver targetedsavings within the sub-category ensuring no adverse impact on quality and timerequirements

Essential Duties &Responsibilities:

  • Through spend analysis,a detailed understanding of the supply market and R&D value chain, developand deliver the sub-category strategy in alignment with Global CategoryStrategy. The strategy should take into accountregional nuances, R&D functional objectives, and ensure the most efficientuse of the various buying channels.
  • Contribute to theCategory Handbook which includes details of all sub-category strategies andsupply markets
  • Build strongrelationships with the R&D stakeholder base and Procurement BusinessPartner organization, in order to ensure a comprehensive strategy is developed
  • Leadmultifunctional/multinational sourcing teams and projects to achieve contracts,orders or agreements that are aligned with the sub-category strategies andhence deliver substantial savings and value back to the R&D function
  • Develop and managerelationships with key suppliers including leading significant negotiations
  • Partner with theProcurement Infrastructure & Development team to identify and communicatebest practices and develop benchmarks that compare internal procurementperformance to industry best practice
  • Ownership of thefinancial performance for the sub-category, including agreement andverification of savings forecast, budgeting, and delivery
  • Develop, implement andmanage an SRM program appropriate to the requirements of the sub-category
  • Directly managestrategic and critical supplier relationships where appropriate
  • Manage contractperformance in collaboration with the R&D functional study directors


Qualifications
  • 6-8 years of strongsourcing and procurement experience
  • Bachelor's Degree(Chemistry, Biology, or any Science related disciplines preferred)
  • Working in amulti-national, multi-cultural environment
  • Project team leadership(geographically dispersed and cross-functional with proven results)
  • Proven record ofsuccess in managing categories related to complex services
  • Strategic outsourcingof complex services

Essential Knowledge& Experience

  • Capability in developing sourcing strategies for complex services and high value research consumables
  • Full knowledge of internal sourcing/procurement procedures and processes, and knowledge of the external trends and best practices
  • Leadership of complex global projects
  • Ability to develop performance measures for sub-categories
  • Deep knowledge of the relevant supply markets
  • Strategy development and implementation
  • Capability to quickly learn complex functional requirements and supply market dynamics
  • Development of strategic relationships with suppliers
  • Ability to influence peers and geographically dispersed teams
  • Effective communication and presentation competencies

Additional Knowledge,Skills, Traits & Abilities:

  • Travel- 30% andoccasional international travel will be required
  • Incumbent must be ableto lead a Virtual Team
  • Working hours flexibleto suit time zone differences
