Description

The Rehabilitation Specialist provides enrichment and work activities for program participants that will aid in their rehabilitation. Spring City Corner Clubhouse is based on a recognized international model in which those living with mental illness experience social contact and a structured, meaningful daily routine. Both are recognized as vital to relieving feelings of hopelessness, which can lead to a greater risk of psychiatric hospitalization.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

Structure and Consistency of Work-Ordered Day

  • Structure department work that is easily understood, accessible and meaningful
  • Uses department meetings to create a sense of urgency regarding work, jobs, upcoming events and job related news
  • Encourages and uses members input and ideas
  • Understands the operations of the departments

Relationships with members

  • Includes and engages each member in the development and implementation process of work in the departments
  • Works side-by-side with members
  • Encourages members to go beyond perceived limitations when appropriate
  • Encourages members to develop independent thinking

Educational and Employment Department

  • Understand vocational and educational resources within clubhouse and the community
  • Assist members attain employment and work with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Assist with Transitional Employment development
  • Provide ongoing work related workshops

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Upon offer, candidates must successfully complete the necessary background, caregiver, medical and any other checks required, according to program requirements. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working within social services field is required; experience with mentally ill adults preferred
  • Creative team member who can successful integrate a variety of resources and data to suggest, create and implement problem solving and case management strategies for participants.
  • Professional boundaries, patience, self-control and flexibility are critical.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

The incumbent of this position must have a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation to perform the essential duties of the role; a motor vehicle check (MVR) with a satisfactory driving record per the LSS Driver Safety Procedure is required, and ability to meet LSS auto insurance requirements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to communicate both in verbal and written format, effectively and efficiently in job. Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret data to complete all required documentation by established timeframes.

COMPUTER SKILLS/TECHNOLOGY:

Working knowledge of computers to allow employee to access computer systems and applications to complete timecards, read and respond to email, and complete required on-line training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, drive a vehicle and may need to climb stairs to access private residences or other locations in the community.

The incumbent of this position will provide services in a variety of settings including office, other areas in the facility and/or locations in the community. The incumbent may be exposed to common household allergens including dust, or pets and unsanitary conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

TRAVEL: Ability to travel on day trips as required. Some overnight travel may be required.
