Job Description

Milwaukee Health Services, Inc. (MHSI) is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) that operates from two (2) sites: The Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Connection at 8200 W. Silver Spring Drive and the MLK Heritage Health Center at 2555 N. Martin Luther King Drive. MHSI offers a range of primary health care services including Medical, Dental, Behavioral, Women’s Health, Benefit Determination, and Pharmacy. FQHCs service everyone regardless of income or third-party coverage and seek to provide high-quality care in accessible locations and at convenient times. Our particular sites primarily target the residents of Milwaukee’s north side but service patients countywide. FQHCs are unique in their delivery of care, patient population, and provision of services. FQHCs seek to provide quality care in underserved areas to the uninsured populations that would otherwise not have access to care.
 

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs moderately complex dental hygienist work. Work involves cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth and conducting educational programs for the prevention and control of dental disease. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Provide services to the clinic's patients in accordance with the general policies and standards of performance established by the clinic.

POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide patient education on oral hygiene instruction and dental-related areas.
• Reinforce treatment plan needs for patients
• Cleans, scales, and polishes teeth.
• Exposes, processes, and evaluates developed radiographs
• Manages patient hygiene regimen
• Records oral conditions and findings in computer charts, updates tooth chart, work to be done, procedures performed, cost of procedures, and patient recommendations.
• Develop prevention programs for patients.
• Cleans hygiene room, sterilizes instruments, and prepares hygiene room for patients.
• May apply pit and fissure sealant to teeth.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program, licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin.
• Experience: Knowledge of dental disease prevention techniques; of dental prophylaxis techniques and procedures; and of public health dental programs.
• Expertise: Skill in the use of dental tools and equipment. Ability to clean and care for human teeth; to instruct patients in the proper care of teeth and gums; to expose, develop, and mount X-rays; to maintain records; and to prepare concise reports.
• Language: Comprehend and use basic language either written or spoken to communicate information and ideals.
• Hours of Work: May vary based on Organizational need.
• Travel: May vary based on Organizational need.
