Position Summary
The Research Specialist will become familiar with all aspects of working in the Animal Histopathology & Laboratory Medicine Core. The selected candidate will perform both routine and non-routine histology testing including all aspects of Histotechnology. The selected candidate will work with the client, as necessary, on the details of the project to maximize the amount of information obtained from the histology. The specialist will research new methods and troubleshoot existing methods on special staining. The specialist will perform both routine and non-routine histology testing including all aspects of Histotechnology. Furthermore, the selected candidate will be the backup technician for the service of immunohistochemistry and/or laboratory medicine services, as needed. In addition, the Research Specialist will be required to perform traditional laboratory cleaning, organization, and equipment preventive maintenance.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Histology experience is required. General lab experience is mandatory, with emphasis on handling chemicals. Familiarity with animal physiology and tissue identification is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong communications skills, ability to work independently and supervise others, and command of written and spoken English are indispensable.
